    Pakistani Aloo Keema (Stovetop & Instant Pot) is a curry that is mixed in whole and powder spices. It's easy and quick great for a weeknight meal.

    WHAT IS ALOO KEEMA?

    Pakistani Aloo Keema (Stovetop & Instant Pot) is potatoes and ground beef curry mixed together with a few whole and powdered spices. This is one of Pakistani comfort food. This Pakistani dinner recipe is perfect for quick, flavorful, and home cooked meal.

    WHAT TYPE OF MEAT GOES WELL ALOO IN KEEMA?

    Aloo Keema is traditionally cooked in ground beef. However, ground chicken or ground turkey can easily be substituted. Although when cooking with chicken just omit adding water to the recipe.

    CAN ALOO KEEMA BE COOKED IN AN INSTANT POT?

    Yes, Aloo Keema can be easily cooked in the Instant Pot. Click Here for the Instant Pot version of the recipe.

    IS ALOO KEEMA SPICY?

    Not at all, For 1 lbs of ground beef, use 1 tsp red chili powder. However, if you want to make it spicy add 2 tsp to 1 lbs ground beef.

    HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO COOK IT?

    If using ground beef it takes about 30 minutes start to finish to cook Aloo Keema.

    HOW LONG WILL IT LAST?

    In the refrigerator, it will last 4-5 days and in the freezer it will last 2-3 months. Just thawed it the night before serving.

    INGREDIENTS

    • Ground beef- I use 80/20 ground beef.
    • Onion- Brown the onion.
    • Potatoes- Cut in medium size not small size.
    • Powder and whole spices- each spice listed will give it its distinct flavor in the recipe.

    HOW TO MAKE ALOO KEEMA?

    Brown the onion.
    Add whole spices.
    Next add Homemade Ginger Garlic Paste
    Then add tomatoes.
    Add yogurt.
    Next add salt and powdered spices.
    Let it cook until it look like this.
    Then add ground beef.
    It should look like this.
    Add potatoes and let it cook.
    Let it cook until ground beef and potatoes are fully cooked.
    Sprinkle some cilantro and squeeze in some fresh lemon juice.

    Ingredients

    • 3 medium potatoes skinless and cut in cubed
    • 1 tsp salt
    • ¼ cup water
    • 1 lbs ground beef
    • ⅓ cup olive oil
    • 1 medium onion
    • 4 tbsp ginger garlic paste
    • ¼ tsp garam masala powder
    • ½ cup yogurt
    • 2 tomatoes chopped

    Whole spices

    • 1 cinnamon stick
    • 1 bay leaf
    • 3 cloves
    • 4 green cardamom
    • 1 black cardamom

    Powdered spices

    • 1 tsp red chili powder
    • ½ tsp turmeric powder
    • 2 tsp coriander powder
    • 1 tsp salt

    Garnish

    • ⅕ bunch cilantro
    • 1 green pepper chopped
    • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice

    Instructions

    Stovetop

    • In a medium size pot, on medium heat, add olive oil and let it heat up.
    • Add onion and brown the onion.
    • Next add whole spices and mix well.
    • Add ginger garlic paste and mix well.
    • Next add tomatoes and mix well.
    • Add yogurt, salt, and powdered spices.
    • Mix well and let everything cook well for few minutes until the tomatoes softens.
    • Add ground beef and break it down.
    • Let it cook until the ground beef changes its color.
    • Add Garam Masala powder.
    • Mix well.
    • Add potatoes and some water.
    • Cover and let it cook on medium-low for 10 minutes until the potatoes are fully done.
    • Open the lid.
    • Please check if the potatoes are tender. They shouldn't be soggy.
    • Garnish with lemon juice, cilantro, and green pepper.

    Instant Pot

    • Turn on the Instant Pot, on saute mode, add oil, and let it heat up.
    • Add onion and brown the onion.
    •  Next add whole spices and mix well.
    •  Add ginger garlic paste and mix well. 
    • Next add tomatoes and mix well. 
    • Add yogurt, salt, and powdered spices.
    • Mix well and let everything cook well for few minutes until the tomatoes softens. 
    • Add ground beef and break it down.Let it cook until the ground beef changes its color. 
    • Seal the lid, put pressure for 5 minutes.
    • Vent the steam out.
    • Add Garam Masala powder.
    •  Mix well. 
    • Add potatoes and some water. 
    • Seal the lid, put pressure for 2 minutes.
    • Vent the steam out.
    • Please check if the potatoes are tender. They shouldn't be soggy. 
    • Garnish with lemon juice, cilantro, and green pepper.
