Sooji Ka Halwa

A mixture of sugar water and Sooji (Semolina), comes together in a form of halwa (dessert). It's unique consistacy will surely remind you of Motherland.

  • 3 1/4 cups water
  • 1/2 cup sooji semolina
  • 2 tbsp salted butter melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 tsp orange food coloring
  • 3 cardamon pods slightly cracked
  • almonds thinly sliced for garnish
  • pistachio thinly sliced for garnish


  • In a saucepan, on a medium heat, combine water, cardamom pods, and sugar.
  • Stir it until the sugar dissolves, add in the orange color, and turn it on low.
  • In a medium size fry pan, on medium heat, add the semolina.
  • Keep stirring the semolina until golden.
  • Add in the butter and mix well.
  • Now add in the water and sugar mixture into the semolina.
  • Keep stirring it big bubbles are formed and it's no longer a runny consistancy this process will take 5-7 minutes.
  • Garnish with almonds and pistachios.
  • Serve it hot or let it cool down.
