WHAT IS CHARSI KARAHI?
Pakistani Charsi Karahi is quick and abound with flavor. It's lightly seasoned with a tomato-based gravy. It takes less than 30 minutes to come together, and originates from the Pakistani region of Peshawar. Check out Karahi Gosht and Chicken Karahi.
WHAT TYPE OF MEAT FOR CHARSI KARAHI?
I used mutton but chicken can be substituted. The only difference is that if chicken is being used to cook this, use an actual karahi and not a pressure cooker or Instant Pot.
INGREDIENTS
This recipe only has a few ingredients.
- Olive oil- Can substitute ghee if olive oil isn't available.
- Goat- Make sure the meat is fresh
- Tomatoes - Crush the tomatoes after pressure.
- Garlic paste - This can be easily be made at home just like Homemade Ginger Garlic Paste just omit the ginger.
- Green peppers- Roughly chopped the peppers.
- Black peppercorns- Ready made black pepper can be substituted, but if black peppercorn are crushed in a mortar pestle it can easily enhance the taste.

Pakistani Mutton Charsi Karahi
Equipment
- Instant Pot
Ingredients
- ⅓ cup olive oil
- 1 lbs goat mutton
- 1 tsp salt
- 3 tomatoes
- 4 tbsp garlic paste
- 2 green peppers
- 1 tsp black peppercorns
- ginger julienne for garnish
Instructions
- In an Instant pot, on sauté mode, add oil.
- Let the oil heat up.
- Add the meat and saute the meat for 5 minutes.
- Now add salt and mix well for 2 minutes.
- Then add garlic paste and mix that around for 2 minutes.
- Place the whole tomatoes.
- Add the green peppers.
- Mix everything around for 3 minutes.
- Then select pressure and pressure it for 15 minutes or until the meat is done.
- Then smash down the tomatoes (as shown in the video.)
- Then in a mortar & pestle crush the black peppercorns.
- Sprinkle that in the Instant Pot, mix well and let it cook for few minutes.
- Garnish with fresh ginger.
- Enjoy!
