Pakistani Charsi Karahi is easy and flavorful, and takes just a few ingredients. Few delicious weeknight recipes can be prepared as expeditiously as this one!

    VIDEO

    WHAT IS CHARSI KARAHI?

Pakistani Charsi Karahi is quick and abound with flavor. It's lightly seasoned with a tomato-based gravy. It takes less than 30 minutes to come together, and originates from the Pakistani region of Peshawar. Check out Karahi Gosht and Chicken Karahi.

WHAT TYPE OF MEAT FOR CHARSI KARAHI?

I used mutton but chicken can be substituted. The only difference is that if chicken is being used to cook this, use an actual karahi and not a pressure cooker or Instant Pot.

    Ingredients picture.

    INGREDIENTS

This recipe only has a few ingredients.

    • Olive oil- Can substitute ghee if olive oil isn't available.
    • Goat- Make sure the meat is fresh
    • Tomatoes - Crush the tomatoes after pressure.
    • Garlic paste - This can be easily be made at home just like Homemade Ginger Garlic Paste just omit the ginger.
    • Green peppers- Roughly chopped the peppers.
    • Black peppercorns- Ready made black pepper can be substituted, but if black peppercorn are crushed in a mortar pestle it can easily enhance the taste.

HOW TO COOK MUTTON CHARSI KARAHI?

Add oil and heat it up, add meat and sauté it. Next add salt and sauté well.
Add ginger paste and mix well.
Now add tomatoes, and green peppers, mix well, and pressure it.
It should look like this after pressure.
    smash the tomatoes.
    It should look like this.
In a mortar & pestle, add black peppercorns and make it until it's course.
Add the crushed black peppercorns in the Instant pot. Let it cook for few minutes.
    Garnish with ginger.

WHAT TO PAIR WITH THIS KARAHI?

WHAT TO PAIR WITH THIS KARAHI?

Pair this delicious karahi with Mutton Biryani, Beef Nihari, and Achari Gosht. Don't forget dessert Kheer and Zarda.
