The Fresh Kachumber Salad with Cilantro is a vibrant mix of vegetables that perfectly balances flavors and helps tone down the spice in Pakistani dishes.

    WHAT IS KACHUMBER?

Fresh Kachumber Salad with Cilantro is a traditional salad from both North India and Pakistan. The word "Kachumber" means "minced," referring to the finely chopped vegetables that give the salad its delightful texture. This refreshing side dish pairs wonderfully with a variety of Pakistani/Indian recipes, from Moong Masoor Dal to Chicken Biryani.

a half shot of kachumber in a white bowl.

My dad loves having Kachumber with almost every dinner. It's a vegetarian recipe, and I've always seen him enjoy it on the side while growing up. It's a family favorite.

WHY MAKE KACHUMBER WITH MAIN DISH?

    • When served alongside a spicy dish, the Kachumber helps tone down the heat.
    • It's healthy, quick to make, and both easy and delicious.

WHICH INGREDIENTS GO IN THE TRADITIONAL KACHUMBER?

    • Onion – I prefer red onion, but shallots and yellow onions can also work well as alternatives.
    • Cucumber – Fresh cucumbers are the most refreshing choice for this recipe. If you prefer a smoother texture, peeling the cucumber can help remove any bitterness.
    • Tomato – A ripe, nutritious tomato is the best option for this dish.
    • Cilantro – Fresh cilantro is the perfect choice to elevate the flavors in this recipe.

    ADD IN FOR KACHUMBER

    • Green pepper- This will increase the spicy level by a lot. My aunt adds green pepper to her kachumber recipe.
    • Black Chickpeas- Some people including my mom add black chickpeas.
    • Red chili flakes- Incorporate a touch of red chili flakes to infuse this recipe with a tantalizing spice kick.

    HOW TO MAKE KACHUMBER?

    Add veggies to a bowl.

Now add lemon juice, salt, pepper, and cilantro.

    Mix well!
