SECRET TO HOW TO SOFTEN THE PANEER?
Some people just fry the block of paneer which is totally wrong approach because it won't be soft or fried evenly when you go in to cut the paneer in cubes. So just cut the paneer in cube soak the pieces of paneer in salt water for softness of the paneer for 15 minutes. The paneer will be soft yet not soggy.
INGREDIENTS
- Paneer- Don't forget to cut in paneer in cubes and soften the paneer prior to frying.
- Homemade Karahi Masala- Just made a homemade karahi masala.
- Onion- Cut 1 onion in half and ½ will be cut diced and other ½ will be cut in cubes.
- Olive oil- I used olive oil but you can use any other neutral oil.
- Bell pepper- Authentic Paneer Karahi will always have bell pepper.
- Ginger Garlic Paste- I used Homemade but you can use store-bought.
HOW TO MAKE PANEER KARAHI?
Make the tomato puree and homemade Karahi Masala set aside.
Cut in cubes.
Add water and salt to a bowl with paneer let it soak in it for 15 minutes.
After 15 minutes, fry the paneer make sure you dry the paneer before turning on the stove. After frying the paneer add in diced onion, diced tomato, and diced bell pepper
Now add some Karahi and mix and set aside.
Add chopped onion and make them translucent.
Now add green pepper.
add the tomato puree.
Next add in the ginger garlic paste and Homemade Karahi Masala.
Add contents from the fry pan to your Karahi.
Next add in lemon juice, dry fenugreek leaves, and fresh cilantro.
Serve it immediately, enjoy!

Stovetop Indian Paneer Karahi With Bell Pepper
Ingredients
Tomato Puree
- 3 tomatoes
- 1 tsp tomato paste
Paneer Soften Ingredients
- 1 lbs paneer cut in cubes
- 1 cup water
- 1 tsp kosher salt
Karahi Ingredients
- ½ onion diced
- ½ onion cubed
- ½ bell pepper cubed
- ⅓ cup olive oil
- 2 tbsp ginger garlic paste
- ½ tsp red chili powder
- kosher salt
Garnish
- ¼ tsp fresh lemon juice
- ⅓ tsp dried fenugreek leaves hand crushed (dry methi)
- 1 tbsp cilantro
Instructions
- Make the Homemade Karahi Masala
Make a Tomato Puree
- Blend 3 tomato with 1 tsp of tomato paste together.
- Set aside.
Soften the paneer, fry, and make the paneer mixture.
- Cut up 1 lbs block of paneer and cut in cube.
- In a bowl, add paneer, 1 cup of water and ½ tsp salt.
- Mix it with spoon.
- Let it sit for 15 minutes.
- After 15 minutes, discard the water and pat dry the paneer with a paper towel.
- In a fry pan, on medium heat, add 2 tbsp of olive oil, let it heat up.
- Add dry paneer cube to the fry pan, let them fry until they are golden on almost all sides.
- Then cut up a tomato diced without seeds, add diced onion, and diced bell pepper.
- Sauté them for 30 seconds to one minute.
- Turn off the stove.
- Add in 1 tsp Homemade Karahi Masala and mix well.
- Set aside.
Let's Make Paneer Karahi!
- In a medium size pot, on medium heat, add ¼ cup of olive oil, and let it heat up.
- Add ½ a chopped onion, sauté the onion until translucent.
- Now add the slitted green peppers and sauté that for 10 seconds.
- Add tomato puree that you made earlier.
- Now add the ginger garlic paste, 3 tbsp Homemade Karahi Masala and mix well.
- Cover the pot, and let it cook for 5 minutes on medium low.
- After 5 minutes, uncover and add the paneer mixture from the fry pan.
- Mix well.
- Add ½ tsp red chili powder and ½ tsp salt and mix.
- Let everything cook well for 5 minutes on low.
- Garnish with fresh lemon juice, cilantro, and dried fenugreek leaves.
- Serve it immediately.
