    WHAT IS CORIANDER?

    Coriander is from the Apiaceae family. Everything about Coriander is edible from its leaves to its stem to its roots and even to its seeds. In Pakistani cooking it enhances the taste of the food. It also plays an aesthetic role, being a key asset for food photography. Every part of Coriander has a distinct taste. 

    WHAT IS CORIANDER POWDER?

    Coriander powder is one of the key ingredients of South Asian cooking like Homemade Garam Masala Powder.

    IS CILANTRO AND CORIANDER THE SAME?

    In South Asian region, the plant and the seeds are called coriander. In North America, the plant or herb is called Cilantro and the seeds are called Coriander.

    TASTE AND TEXTURE

    Coriander seeds- They are little round greenish balls. They taste very light or subtle. They sure elevate the taste in any Masalas like Homemade Biryani Masala and Homemade Karahi Masala. Sometimes adding them as hand-crushed coriander seeds to any recipes helps with the taste of the dish like Keemay Ki Kachori.

    Coriander Powder- It's a green-brownish powder with an earthy color. It tastes warm and is packed with aroma and flavor. It's added in various dishes like Maash Ki Dal, Chukandar Gosht), Mutton Masala Curry, and many others. 

    WHY DRY ROASTING IS IMPORTANT?

    Dry roasting is important in making Pakistani spice blends like this one. It dries extra moisture that's in the whole spice plus it gives a fantastic aromatic smell. When making coriander powder, dry roast lightly make sure the coriander seeds don't turn brown.

    HOW TO STORE IT?

    Store it in a dry air-tight jar. Make sure there is no sign of liquid content anywhere in the air-tight jar. 

    HOW LONG IS IT GOOD FOR?

    If stored properly, It's good for 2-3 years.

    WHAT'S THE SECRET INGREDIENT?

    The secret ingredient is citric acid. Citric acid is an organic preservative. It can increase any spice blends shelf-life. Of course, It's optional.

    Ingredients

    • 2 cups coriander powder sabut danya
    • ¼ tsp citric acid (optional)

    Instructions

    • Dry roast the coriander seed in a fry pan. (Make sure you dry roast lightly, coriander seeds shouldn't turn brown.)
    • Let it cool down for 2 minutes.
    • Then transfer it in a grinder.
    • Now add citric acid (optional)
    • Grind it until it's powder form.
    • Store it in an airtight container.
