Tender Homemade Pakistani Chicken Tikka is a delicious barbecue favorite from Pakistan and India. It’s made by marinating chicken breast in a few simple ingredients and homemade Tikka Masala, giving it an amazing flavor you won’t forget!

    WHAT IS CHICKEN TIKKA?

Tender Homemade Pakistani Chicken Tikka is chunks of chicken breasts wrapped in a homemade Tikka Masala (spice blend) and strewn on skewers. They are tender, juicy treats for your tastebuds like other Pakistani/Indian barbecue delicacies such as Seekh Kabab and Bihari Kababs.

This Pakistani/Indian appetizer recipe has won many hearts, including my family's. Chicken Tikka is a staple at nearly all our family barbecues. During our family reunion this past Thanksgiving, we had a barbecue one day, and Chicken Tikka was an essential part of it.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CHICKEN TANDOORI AND CHICKEN TIKKA?

Chicken Tandoori is known for its red color, while Chicken Tikka has a brownish or orange hue. Tandoori is typically made with chicken quarters, whereas Chicken Tikka uses chunks of chicken breast. The spice blends used for each are also quite different.

HOW BIG DO WE CUT THE CHICKEN BREAST FOR CHICKEN TIKKA?

Cut the chicken breast into about half-inch to one-inch square pieces for the optimal Chicken Tikka.

    STEPS IN CHICKEN TIKKA?

    • Make the homemade Tikka Masala.
    • Smoke the Chicken.
    • Marinate the Chicken.
    • Grill the Chicken

WHAT CAN CHICKEN TIKKA EATEN IN?

It tastes great by itself, however, you can add:

    • in a sandwich
    • in a salad
    • as a pizza topping
    • in a wrap
    • in a taco

    INGREDIENTS

    • Chicken- Chicken breast is preferred but chicken thigh can be subtituted.
    • Lemon juice- For a tarty sour kick to the chicken tikka.
    • Homemade chicken tikka- This comes together in no time. It only requires mixing some powder spices together.

    HOW TO MAKE CHICKEN TIKKA?

Mix the ingredients including homemade tikka masala for the mixture and blend.
After blending this is what it should look like.
Marinate the chicken with the mixture.
Place a steel bowl along with lit coal, then add some oil.
As soon as you see smoke cover the lid of the mixing bowl so all the smoke gets trapped. Leave it like that for 3 minutes. Remove the lid and the steel bowl with the coal.
Mix it well then place it in the refrigerator to marinate.
Add the chicken to the skewer.
    Fold it in a foil.
    Like this.
    Fold it all the way.
Twist the ends of the foil.
    Like this.
Do the same with the rest of the chicken pieces.
Place them to the barbecue grill. Make sure you turn them so all sides get cooked evenly.
    Remove the chicken from foil.
    Grab the olive oil spray.
Spray the grill then place the Chicken tikka. Make sure it gets charred on all sides.
    Enjoy!

    TIPS

    • When grilling wrap the chicken skewer in foil this step will make the chicken soft and juicy. The chicken will not lose all of water.
    • If grilled directly the chicken turn out to be dry and rubbery.
    • Once the chicken is cooked in foil, then open and char it on direct flame.
    • Always smoke the marinated chicken and not after cooking.
    • Marinate at least 2 hours. The longer it sits with marination, the better and tender it tastes. Overnight to couple of days will be great.

    WHAT TO PAIR THIS WITH?

This Pakistani/Indian recipe pairs perfectly with Green Chutney.
