    Flavorful Stovetop Bhuna Keema

Oct 18, 2024 by Sarah Mirza · Leave a Comment

Jump to Recipe Step by Step Print Recipe

Flavorful Stovetop Bhuna Keema is a delicious weeknight recipe. This is classic stir-fry ground beef recipe. You just have to let it marinate then cook for 18-20 minutes on high heat. This recipe can be served with Chapati or Naan.

    WHAT IS BHUNA KEEMA?

The Flavorful Stovetop Bhuna Keema is both fast and delicious. "Bhuna" refers to a cooking technique where ground meat is stir-fried on high heat with spices. The word "keema" means minced or ground meat in Urdu. When you fry the meat this way, you get a flavorful dish called Bhuna Keema (stir-fry ground beef). Do check out other ground beef recipes, like Aloo Keema and Beef Keema.

This recipe has its roots in the South Asian subcontinent, originally from India, but later becoming popular in Pakistan. It’s a great example of a traditional Indian/Pakistani main dish recipe, offering comforting flavors with mild spices.

This Pakistani recipe is unique, particularly because of its Bhuna cooking method. The technique is simple, as the constant stirring reduces the risk of burning your food. It's my brother-in-law's favorite 'Keema' recipe.

    INGREDIENTS

    • Ground Beef- I used ground beef, but you can easily swap it with ground chicken, lamb, or mutton.
    • Yogurt- I opted for full-fat yogurt, but low-fat or Greek yogurt can be used as alternatives.
    • Fried Onion- I used store-bought fried onions, though you can fry fresh onions at home if preferred.
    • Ginger Garlic Paste- I made my own homemade ginger garlic paste, but store-bought works just as well.
    • Whole and Powdered Spices-These spices add depth and warmth to the dish.

    HOW TO MAKE BHUNA KEEMA?

Add all the ingredients to the pot.

    Mix and marinate it.

    Turn on the stove.

Add water and keep on stirring until it's fully cooked.

Garnish with cilantro and serve it with Chapati.

    Enjoy!

    HOW TO STORE IT?

Store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. For longer storage, you can freeze it for 1-2 months. When you're ready to eat, simply thaw it overnight at room temperature or in the fridge, then reheat it on the stovetop—it will taste as fresh as the day you made it.

    SERVE IT WITH...

Serve Bhuna Keema with warm Chapati and a traditional kachumber salad.

Hey Friend, You’ve made it this far, so now we’re basically best friends! If you make this recipe, I’d love for you to give it a quick review & star rating ★ below. Make sure you follow me on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok.
