- Onion- I use red onion for most of my recipes but you can subtitute white as well.
- Whole spices- This recipe consists of only whole spices. They help with digestion and brings flavor to the Khichidi.
- Ginger Garlic Paste- I use Homemade ginger garlic paste but you can use store-bought.
- Rice- I use Basmati Rice for this recipe.
HOW TO MAKE MOONG DAL KHICHIDI?
Add oil, and add in the onion, then whole spices.
Now add ginger garlic paste.
Add in the Moong lentil.
Now add water.
Add rice and salt.

How To Make Moong Dal Khichidi At Home (Step by Step)
Ingredients
- 1 cup basmati rice
- ¾ cup Moong Lentil
- ¼ cup olive oil
- ½ medium onion sliced
- 2 tbsp ginger garlic paste
- 1 tsp kosher salt or as needed according to your taste.
- 1½ cup water
Whole spices
- ½ tsp cumin seeds
- 4 cloves
- 1 black cardamom
- 10 black peppercorn
- 2 dry long pepper
- 1 cinnamon stick
Instructions
- In a medium-size pot, on medium heat, add oil, and let it heat up.
- Add onion, sauté until brown.
- Now add whole spices.
- Sauté them for 10 seconds.
- Add ginger garlic paste.
- Next add Moong lentils and mix well for 30 seconds.
- Now add water, bring it to a boil.
- Add rice and salt.
- Bring it to boil.
- Cover and let it cook for 7-8 minutes or until the water evaporates.
- Now turn it heat on low for 5 min.
- Serve with Achar, Green Chutney and Kachumber.
